Polymath Gems
Media Studies

Polymath Gems (Media Studies) is a live analogue broadcast installation, filmed in front of a live studio audience. Formalised from the mood-boards of hosts interdisciplinary artist Daniel Oduntan and myself, the night aimed to expand on the often overlooked and unseen design elements that create timeless work. Featuring an assemblage of guest collaborators, in-house performances and DJ sets; Polymaths Gems (media studies) is an informal deep-dive-fuzzy-logic analysis on how commercial products, TV, album art, cinema, music videos and much more use media language to create meaning and how cultural representation, history and industry affect the way those media products are made.

Joined by director, producer and writer Cassie Quarless, who’s recent work include the BBC Virgil Abloh documentary Virgil Abloh: How To Be Both and his new self published guidebook AI for Film & TV which aims at inspiring creatives in Film and Television to augment their ideation and storyboard phase and reclaim free time. As well as designer/artist, creative technologist and D&AD Shifter Olivia Ema, who’s work expands across graphic design, 3D, AR and in particular ponders the crossovers in spirituality, popular culture and emerging tech within our current digital landscape. Live music from South East London singer/visual artist Mary Sho and a special video mix with DJ duo Infinite Snds.
